Wiles-Smith Drug Store

 Wiles-Smith Drug Store officially owns the key to my heart. Four words - milkshakes and grilled cheese! I mean thick, malted, chocolate (or vanilla) milkshakes partnered with white bread and american cheese. Not only can you get drool worthy food, Wiles Smith Drug Store has a whole pharmacy, greeting cards, and much more. It's an extremely unique place and somewhere you should definitely go if you are in Memphis.

Update on that sweet dog

He finally has a name - Cooper - AND he has a home! My professor and his wife adopted Cooper at the end of last week. They told me that they couldn't stop thinking about him since I sent them pictures and a description. I get email updates on how he is doing - like how much they love him and how it took three people to get him into the bathtub! As much as I wanted to keep him I am elated knowing  he is in a happy, loving home :) Maybe this is a sign that I should rescue dogs for a living...maybe.

Family visit

My family came down to Memphis this past weekend :) There were ups and downs as in all families, but I was just happy they were here. They also bought me some groceries and put gas in my car! A college kid's dream! It's a little crazy to think this was their last visit until graduation (230 days until I graduate - our school sends out emails to remind us...rude!) So glad you guys came down!

On Friday night a few girls and I went to listen to free music at the Levitt Shell. You should definitely click that link and read about its history - Elvis performed the first ever rock and roll show in the shell!

Saturday was the ever so popular Cooper-Young Fest! In their own words the Festival is "a true celebration of the arts, people, culture and Memphis heritage." Streets around the Cooper Young district are lined with vendors of all sorts - music, crafts, food, and drink! It's a celebration of Memphis and its wonderful people :) I purchased an awesome ceramic flask (seriously so cool!) and a necklace made from various pieces of antique jewelry. I'll show you pictures of those later, but for now here are some shots of the weekend :)

A sweet sweet dog

I have so much to tell you about awesome events that happened in Memphis this past weekend, but at the moment my priority is finding the big guy in picture a home. He has been wandering around my neighborhood with a collar on (no tags) and after a few days I finally took him into my house. I've tried everything - calling vets, calling shelters, scanning for a microchip, ads on various websites, community newsletters, but I can't seem to find this guys owner. If I don't hear anything by Friday (he will have been missing for over a week at that point) I'm going to bring him to a lab rescue center. I know they will find him a good home.

 As of now I am just enjoying his wonderful presence :) He is an amazing, obedient, and extremely sweet dog. I know he is going to make his future family very happy! Just wish I had the time and money to keep him for myself.

Cup Night

You know what's better than getting to try a new beer? Getting to keep the cup it comes in! It's like the  take home cup from kid meals ... except it's only for adults :) Every Wednesday night at the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium they host what they have deemed cup night. They decide on one beer and if you order it you get to take the cup home with you! It's a fun way to try a new beer and gain an awesome cup collection.

A few friends and I have recently deemed Wednesday nights dinner and cup night :) It is the perfect middle of the week pick me up. Here's our cup from last Wednesday

Want to know something even better about Flying Saucer? If you try all of their 200 beers on tap (yup all 200 are on tap) you enter into the Ring of Honor and get a plate on the wall. That's right folks a whole plate! I am currently 199 beers away ;) Wish me luck!

Lester the hedgehog

A cute little critter named Lester stopped by today and wandered around my front yard. Unfortunately, he runs to quickly so I wasn't able to get a great shot of him. He's a sweetheart who likes to burrow into your sweatshirt and make himself a new home!

Stormy Day

Hurricane Isaac has finally made its way up to Memphis. Yesterday, as the sun set, the storm clouds came barreling in. There was little rain but, instead, tons of beautiful lightening. The cloud formations were so spectacular I couldn't help but take a few shots.
