DIY: No sew superhero cape

I love fun and cheap halloween costumes - but really who doesn't?! This year I decided to save the world and be a superhero! The only thing I needed was an awesome cape. So I came up with an easy DIY cape - a no sew and no glue cape! I thought I'd share it with you guys in case you needed an easy last minute costume!

Materials Needed-
-1.5 yards of any fabric you want
-5 ft of any colored ribbon
-Scissors!

First: Pick out an awesome fabric!

Second: Fold one of the edges of the fabric over 1 inch

Third: Cut slits into the fold of the fabric. Each slit should be about 1 inch apart.

Fourth: Unfold your fabric and begin weaving your ribbon through the slits.

Fifth: Gather the fabric towards the center.

Finally: Tie it around your neck and go save the world!

I paired my cape with a bright blue shift dress to keep it girlie! Unfortunately I only took a picture of my whole costume on my iPhone so it's poor quality. But here is my finished look! Happy Halloween everyone!

Portland pt. 1

I was lucky enough to spend my fall break visiting Luke in Portland. It was only sunny 1/5 days I was there so we took advantage of our only sunny day! We went hiking around Multnomah falls and found an awesome/challenging trail. We had to climb over fallen tree trunks and walk through freezing water (aka freshly melted snow) that came up to our mid chest. It led us to a beautiful secret waterfall - totally worth the numb toes ;)

Later that day we went apple picking near the base of Mt. Hood. I wish I could pick my own Honeycrisp apples while gazing at the mountain all the time, it rocked!

Rizzo's Diner

Lobster stuffed pronto pups

From left to right: Pork belly with grits, chorizo meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes, cajun chicken pot pie

I couldn't get a picture of the dessert before we ate it. It was THAT good.

I had you at lobster stuffed pronto pup, right? Our dinner table defined Rizzo's food as "stupid good." Aka so good you start laughing and can't stop. I highly recommend the meatloaf. I can't stop dreaming about it.

*Also, they were recently featured on Diner, Drive-ins & Dives. Go Rizzo's!

Lights out!

My power went out this weekend - and yes, it did happen right as I sat down to write my two papers. Then, of course, the minute I finish my papers it magically comes back on. I think it's the universe telling me to never again stay in on Friday and Saturday to write a paper. You know what universe? I totally agree :)

Trolley Night

On the last friday of every month the Memphis South Main Historic District hosts "Trolley Night." Its a festival full of entertainment, free refreshments, and art openings. Why is it called Trolley Night? Glad you asked :) Memphis has its very own trolley that you can take from downtown to somewhere off in midtown (it literally stops in the middle of the road). Every Trolley Night you can ride the trolley for free! Thats right....free art, free trolley, and free wine. A perfect celebration to the end of each month. If I have learned anything from this months Trolley night it is that I need a better lens for low light circumstances. Sorry for the blur!
